HISTORY
The American A.G. In 1947, Hancock made the first trip across water on bare feet. Inspired by this, Dick Pope Jr. trained so that he could finally perform this stunt in his father's water ski show in Cypress Gardens (Florida) on March 6, 1947. Photos of this went around the world.
The first championships were held in Australia in 1963, and the first world championship also took place in Canberra. The USA and Australia dominated the young sport.
The hosting of the 1988 World Cup in Kelheim/Germany brought about a strong boom in Central Europe. The detailed presentation of the sport at that time in the popular ORF program “Sport am Montag” made it known to a wide audience in Austria. In addition to other major championships, the 2002 World Championships were held in Wallsee on the Danube in Lower Austria.
